Indian Railways began its service on 16th April 1853 when it ran its first passenger train from Mumbai to Thane covering a distance of 33 kilometres. It is building world’s highest railway bridge – five times the height of QutubMinar and even taller than Eiffel tower by 35 meters It is built on Chenab river and is on the Udhampur-Srinagar- BaramulhaRail Link Road.
Indian Railways have the distinction of having four “World Heritage Sites” declared by UNESCO. These includes Darjeeling Himalyan Railway inscribed in 1991, Mumbai CS Building declared in 2004, Neelgiri Mountain Railways Included in 2005 and Kalka- Shimla Railways was honoured in 2008.
